What We Believe

The Westminster Confession of Faith (read in the light of our declaratory statement) provides a fuller explanation / expression of what we as Christians in our churches believe. However, the Bible is our supreme standard and sits over everything in our denomination. God’s word is the supreme standard. A quick summary of some ley points is provided below.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.

The Trinity

We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, infinite and unchanging, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Man and Sin

We believe that we need Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We believe that no one is perfect except for Jesus. In God’s sight we are guilty of sin, no matter how minor we might think it is. Because of this we are totally unable to save ourselves from God’s displeasure. But the good news is that God wants to save us. He provides Jesus – all we have to do is put our faith and trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior. We call this salvation by grace, found only in Jesus Christ. It’s available to anyone who believes.

Election

We believe that this salvation is the work of God alone. He sovereignly chooses whom He will save. We believe that His choice is based solely on His grace, not on any merit found in his people, their foreseen faith, or their religious activity.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect obedience and sacrificial death as the representative and substitute of his people, atoned for the sins of all who would trust in Him alone for salvation. Jesus has achieved what we never could and his saving grace can be applied to us by faith.

Justification

We believe that the only way to acceptance with God is by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone.

There is much more we could say, but that’s all contained within the Westminster Confession of Faith.
